" Chiaverini (The Wedding Quilt) writes novels plotted around the Elm Creek Quilters. She describes well the work produced by the women, but all the fine adjectives in the fiction do not do justice to the quilts she produces. Perhaps that's why, in addition to 18 novels, Chiaverini has also authored four collections of quilt projects, based on the novels' quilts. Her newest contains quilts described in Chiaverini's last half-dozen novels, along with sidebar quotes from the novels, but discusses little of the quilts themselves. For The Last Quilter, set in the Civil War, Chiaverini designed Mr. Lincoln's Spy. Pineapple Patch, the quilt developed from The Aloha Quilt, is worked in an emerald green material set in ivory from Chiaverini's fabric line. She designed the 13 projects, including two holiday quilts, and pieced them, sometimes aided by her mother, Geraldine Neidenbach, and her sister, Heather Neidenbach; a friend, Sue Vollbrecht, machine-quilted them. Templates are sized to work with. The directions, from cutting to constructing, instruct the intermediate quilter; for example, terms like "cornerstones" are not defined and the quilter is occasionally referred to a general quiltmaking book for technique advice. I was introduced to the Elm Creek Quilts pattern books by reading the Elm Creek book series written by Jennifer Chiaverini. I found the books fun to read and the description of the quilts interesting. The only response I have for the quilt pattern books is "WOW" They are beautifully executed with clear instructions and full size patterns. Even if you don't quilt, they are wonderful to look at. I highly reccommend these books to anyone with an interest in beautiful things as well as anyone interested in quilts. These books are delightful for the quilter as well as a coffee table addition.
This book is awesome, you can actually see the quilts that Jennifer writes about in her Elm Creek series. The patterns are clear, well written and illustrates are clear! I was a little concerned about buying a quilting book as an ebook. I had bought an ebook making doll clothes a couple of years ago, but the patterns were not available when purchased that way. These are available. They are PDF format. All of the patterns in the book have their templates available. The e book is great and it doesn't take up space in my crowded sewing room. I am off to start the cornucopia quilt. Purchase this book and have some fun.
