I rarely read romances, but when my sister highly recommended this series, I gave it a try, and enjoyed myself immensely. In fact, Andrea Simonne is one of those rare writers who transports her readers out of their homes and places them in the story itself. It's a story of a woman who fights back after her husband dumps her, not to get him back, but to figure out who she is and to grow and to protect her young daughter from the disintegration of her parents' marriage. Then she meets a wonderful man who didn't follow his family's expectations, and who never feels as if he's contributing to the betterment of society. They fall in love, but when Natalie's husband decides he made a mistake leaving her and wants to return, she does something that hadn't happened since she was a little girl. And that's when she knows what she has to do.
Not really a comedy. This is more a story of Natalie's journey of letting go of a lifetime of self doubtInstead of a romance, this book is actually shows well how a woman in her mid-30s, who has always been overlooked, suddenly catches the eye of a younger man who is almost constantly surrounded by beautiful young women. I like that she chooses to transform herself before she has any love interest & it's just for herself, not to snare a man. Natalie & Anthony's courtship has a strong physical component, but you can also see how they are a good match emotionally. The plot doesn't have any surprises, but I did care about both characters & I am curious about Blair & Lindsey's stories which I assume are the next 2 in this series.
"Year of Living Blonde" by Andrea SimonneWOW! A terrific story about life after divorce, something which many of us can relate to. Ms. Simonne did an outstanding job with this book, it is so well written. Once you start reading you won't put it down. Her writing is exceptional. There is alot of humor. You will feel like you know the characters. Her creative thinking and ideas to get past the days of separation could be very useful to many of us. Of course we are not all lucky enough to find an Anthony, but aside of finding a new and better relationship Ms. Simonne teaches us how to become stronger women, physically and mentally, thus making us happier. Just ordered her second book, can't wait to start reading it.I highly recommend this book, download the Kindle App it's easy.
WAY TO GO REMINDED ME OF MY HUSBAND AND ME IN OUR COLLEGE YEARS AND EARLY MARRIAGE. Natalie and Blair co-own a Bakery. Natalie wears big clothes and is married to Peter. After a bad day at work and meeting her landlord to the bakery , she comes home and Peter wants a divorce that he is leaving her for Lena. With her sister Lindsey help Natalie works at loosing weight and exercising. Blair and Linsey take Natalie for a haircut, dye, and clothes shopping day. She transforms and Anthony notices. This is a story about Natalie and Anthony . Does Natalie go back to Peter or does she go back to Anthony READ this story .
Natalie was married for 14 years. Her husband Peter was a world class jerk. He left her for an older woman. Natalie was devastated. She had very low self esteem. She was dedicating her self to her business and realized that she wasn't really involved in her marriage. She was hoping to expand her business but her landlord Anthony won't let them expand because they would not be able to afford it. After awhile Natalie realizes she is attracted to him. Natalie had lost weight, gotten in shaped and became a blond. She still has her issues but she feels good about herself. I really hated her ex husband and his girlfriend. Very good book even though Natalie did some things that I didn't like.
I really loved this book! It made me laugh, cry and get pissed off in defense of both Natalie and Anthony. It deals with a woman getting to know her true self after getting divorced. I loved the way the author helped Natalie discover herself while developing the story. Anthony is amazing! The hero is drool worthy and pretty much perfect.Spoilers*****The moment Natalie decides to give Peter the ex-husband a chance is very well done. You want to tell her to stop being stupid and throw him out on his ass but having personal experience with a mom wanting the best for her kids, to me, it was a part of the heroines self-discovery, and her realizing she would never wish the unhappiness of a loveless marriage on her child brought her back to my good graces in a new york minute.Again, i loved this book and recommend it fully!I'm definitely buying the next book after submitting this review!
I read a lot but don't write many reviews. I was compelled to write one for this book. I just loved it and couldn't put it down, it sucked me in. I won't recap the story since that's already been done. I liked that the characters changed and evolved over the course of time, they all seemed very "real" to me in their own unique ways, and I missed them when the story ended. So much that I had to download the second book. (I held out for a few days but I had to have it, much like chocolate.) The author does switch between 1st and 3rd person narrative (as mentioned by another reviewer) but that didn't bother me, I liked her style and felt like I was so involved with the characters I couldn't put it down. I really wanted to scream at Natalie at one point, but at the same time I got why she was doing what she did. The same with Anthony - but I think that's why I liked the book so much, nobody is perfect and everyone has reasons for doing things, albeit imperfect and somewhat misguided at times. That's life. Anthony is a little over-the-top gorgeous, but hey it is a novel, after all :-) The supporting characters were great too.
